You’ll struggle to find a more classic old-skool Malibu abode than this adorable bungalow. Combining a rustic aesthetic with bouts of nautical knick-knacks and sleek modern amenities like air-con and lightning-fast Wi-Fi, it’s also mere meters from the beach and offers stunning ocean views throughout. Even if you opt for a leisurely brunch or chilled-out evening in, the seascape’s always there to keep you company.

Exploring the best of the scenic city of Malibu doesn't have to cost the earth. In fact, this super-cute one-bedroom apartment – which happens to be literally less than 30 feet away from the ocean – is afforable for its location. Direct access to the ocean-facing deck is an obvious drawcard here; and you can hear the waves from your king-sized bed as you fall asleep.

We’re bending one of our rules because this one-bedroom is just too reasonably priced: Technically this ground-floor unit is right around the corner from the beach and you’ll have to cross the Ballona Creek Bike Path to reach the sand. But we’d say that proximity to the bike path, the beach and the restaurants on Culver Boulevard are entirely part of the appeal.

Have you ever gone to Point Dume and admired those mansions atop the bluff? Well now you can stay in one—or the slightly more affordable guest house, as we’ve chosen. The adorable but impressive cottage has the perfect views for spotting whales or dolphins, though that also means you’ll have to tackle quite a few steps to reach the beach—which makes the pool perfect for when you’re feeling too lazy.
