If there’s one thing the UK can deliver, it’s good walks. The country is a treasure trove of natural beauty, rippled with routes that take in spectacular countryside and must-visit sights – many of which are only accessible on foot.
Some of the greatest minds of our time have strapped on their walking boots and plodded along the trails of Britain looking for inspiration (Beatrix Potter knew the routes around the Lake District like the back of her hand, don’t ya know), and who can blame them? The United Kingdom flexes its (calf) muscles with impressive National Parks, from the mighty mountains of Snowdonia to the rugged beauty of the Yorkshire Dales.
The walks listed here are a little more challenging than the usual stomp around the park. You can either pick a short stretch of the trail to wander or, if you fancy a serious hike (some of which take days), you can do them in their entirety. It’s the perfect excuse to dust off that tent and book a pitch at one of the UK’s brilliant campsites – or go wild camping (responsibly, of course) for a walk on the wild side. So grab your boots and pack some sandwiches, here are some of the best hiking routes in the UK.
