The sights, sounds and smells of Notting Hill Carnival can be overwhelming. What’s more, with an estimated 2.5 million people making their way to west London over the August bank holiday weekend, it’s totally understandable that you might get turned around, lost or just be in need of a reminder of where you are after a couple of cans of Red Stripe.
That’s where we come in: we’re here to help you navigate your way through this year’s NHC with our map of the parade, soundsystems, tube stops – and, most importantly, toilets!
Yes, Carnival is back — after a two-year pandemic-induced hiatus — and it feels so good. For the first time since 2019, here is the route map for Notting Hill Carnival 2022:
What is the schedule for Notting Hill Carnival 2022?
Notting Hill Carnival 2022 officially starts at 10am on Sunday August 28 and at 10.30am on Bank Holiday Monday August 29.
On Carnival Saturday, the UK National Panorama Steelband competition kicks off at 6pm until 11pm. The Competition Steelpan extravaganza will take place the night before at Emslie Horniman’s Pleasance Park, Kensal Road, W10 3DH.
On Carnival Sunday, aka Family Day, J’Ouvert, which is a traditional celebration before the formal start of Carnival, will begin at 6am. If you’re up early enough to catch the iconic celebration, it starts at Sainsbury’s, Canal Way, Ladbroke Grove, W10 5AA.
If you can’t make J’Ouvert, the official opening ceremony will take place from 10am to 10.30am on Great Western road, before the Children’s Day Parade and Carnival Parade kick off and run until 5pm.
On Carnival Sunday and Monday, the 36 static soundsystems will play from noon to 7pm at various locations across the parade map, which you can find here. On Carnival Monday (the final day), the Adults’ Day Parade and Carnival will run from 10.30am to 8.30pm and will take place across the parade route.
