This small-batch roaster has been churning out top-notch goods behind Chelsea Pizza since 2010. Test out their single origin coffee or take their meticulously formulated house blend for a spin in their signature blue cups. Cakes and a short-order menu are up for grabs from the kitchen with house-toasted muesli or bacon and egg sandwiches available until 2pm. Come lunch, take a peek at their steak sandwich and take some Elixir too, with retail coffee available in 250g, 500g and 1kg packs.

Felix & Co opened up in Nedlands in 2013, and showcases some of the best coffee from small-batch roasters around the country. Bare bulbs hang artfully from the ceiling in this tiny, minimalist joint, and it’s a favourite with students walking over from UWA. The Hampden Road hotspot has extensive curated coffee lists with pour over, cold brew, and caffeine-related paraphernalia to take home. Pair your beverage with one of the best toasties in Perth, and you’re in for a top day.

Wind your way through the crowds outside La Patisserie South Perth on a weekend and you’re in for a treat. Their dessert case is a visual and palate-pleasing delight, with croissants piled high and fruit tarts and eclairs glossy and tempting. Grab a coffee and perch on their outdoor seating in the sun, or wander down to the riverside as you look over to the city. You can’t go to La Patisserie without grabbing a little something for later. Their loaves and baguettes are crisp on the outside and pillowy-soft inside.

Pixel Coffee Brewers is a cosy little café run by two friends. They cheerfully describe themselves as “a couple of Perth girls working towards their dreams,” and they’ve built an impressive following in Leederville. Peppered with retro accents and pastel galore, Pixel’s one of the top spots in Perth to grab a caffeine hit (brewed with outstanding Five Senses beans). Sample their fresh breakfasts, salads and soups, or treat yourself with a slice of one of their elaborate layer cakes. They’re always shaking up the menu and serve a mean turmeric latte.

Small Print Baker and Coffee Maker is a CBD worker’s dream. Open extra early on weekdays, they know exactly how to win over the caffeine and baked-goods-lovers of Perth. Venture downstairs at Print Hall to sample their brews made from beans sourced all over the world and roasted in house. Skipped brekky at home? Grab some brioche French toast with fruit, mascarpone and maple syrup. Come lunch time, they’ve got bakery standards (sandwiches and pies) with a gourmet twist.

The peculiar name is a mashup of “Spro” (short for espresso) and “YOLO” (You Only Live Once), and they’ve become a South Perth institution since opening in August 2014. It's the storefront for Blacklist Coffee Roasters (you can pop around the back to the warehouse), and has a reputation for a quality brew. They promise good eats, awesome coffee and great folks, and deliver on all three fronts. There’s even a barista training school on site if you’re keen to roast some beans yourself. They supply cafés across Perth, distribute overseas, and have taken out a swag of awards – these guys and girls know their caffeinated stuff.

It’s worth braving the lines for some of the best pies in Perth, and killer breakfast and takeaway lunch offerings to boot. It’s all made in-house; Tuck Shop's motto is “food is our language”, and you’ll be fluent in an instant. The baristas whip up quality brews in Tuck Shop – no longer do you have to sacrifice good pastries for good coffee or vice versa. They exclusively use Toby’s Estate beans, and notch up rave reviews for their wares. For a little something sweet on the side, try one of their white chocolate and walnut brownies or sticky date and caramel muffins.
