At the best hotels in Perth, you'll find proof that the west coast's hotel scene is exploding. More than 20 new or renovated hotels have opened around Perth since 2012 with many taking full advantage of the new Elizabeth Quay waterfront development. This pedestrian and arts precinct's design pays homage to Perth's First Nations people, with large public works by Noongar artists like Laurel Nannup, and a curving, flowing sense of space by the Swan River. Never before seen luxury and late checkout times abound in the wild west. Here's our pick of the best hotels in Perth.

Situated in the centre of Perth’s burgeoning CBD and occupying three of WA’s heritage listed buildings dating back to the 19th century, Como at The Treasury is cosier than slipping into flannelette PJs yet as luxe as cashmere. With just 48-rooms it’s the place for those who are usually seen, to not be seen. Guests don’t even need to leave the hotel. In house personal training sessions can be arranged for you as well as private yoga sessions. The dining options, fine dining and raw, are also all in house.

Time Out tip: Order in the kangaroo smoked over jarrah and served with blueberries.

The Mary Kondo of hotels. Tribe doesn’t do clutter or unnecessary additions liked overstocked minibars or room service. It’s the place to be for those keen to get out and explore the city and make new friends. Use a complimentary bike to explore nearby Kings Park, or catch an Uber to the CBD, for under a tenner. The “Hangout Zone” offers free WiFi and access to the barista-manned bar. Eating in house is casual and available for every meal. The staff are hip, helpful and decked out in designer uniforms.

Time Out tip: Start every morning with a green juice from the café.

Alex sits in the middle of Northbridge’s evolving small bar and slow fashion scene. Eateries and stores stocking designer and local wares are right outside the door, which is why the founders made the rooms quite cosy. “Wake up and get woke” is the mantra of this cool hotel. The honour-system bar allows you to help yourself while making yourself at home in the communal area. Grab a drink (which you can pay for when you check out at the civilised time of noon) and bask on the rooftop.

Time Out tip: Make use of the cosy love seats in the communal area, perfect for a pre-PICA show nap or meditation.

It’s the most expensive hotel ever built in Australia and it shows. It’s the place to stay for a true 5-star (some even say 6-star) hotel experience. Luxurious finishes, attentive staff and fancy décor greet you, as do the seven metre woven ceilings in the lobby. The buffet breakfast is considered the best in Perth, as are the Bellinis you order while eating it. The restaurant, Epicurean, is also home to the largest chocolate fountain in the Southern Hemisphere.

Time Out tip: Take a dip in the lagoon style pool no matter what the weather, it’s heated to 30 degrees all year round.

Great for those who like to be independent and maintain their usual routine. Attika’s charm is in the self-contained apartments. All come with a fully-functional kitchen with stove top, microwave and Nespresso pods. Free WiFi runs throughout the hotel, there is a convenience store in the lobby and the inner city location is great for those travelling for work who need to be out and in meetings all day.

Time Out tip: Stretch your legs and explore the city by strolling about 20 minutes into nearby West Perth to grab a coffee and breakfast at Gordon Street Garage.

It’s been compared to Singapore’s Raffles Hotel and the Old Savoy in London for its colonial heritage and style. For those needing to seek refuge, the private entrances, high security and a rumoured secret exit makes The Terrace a hot bed of celebrities and dignitaries. Rooms in the 1890 heritage-listed building boast heavy jarrah furniture, four-poster beds and (decorative) open fireplaces. The perfect place for weary travellers seeking a great night’s sleep and some space to get through a jammed packed Kindle.

Time Out tip: Book into the High Tea. Don’t think about the price. Just do it.

Chic and sexy, Frasers is perfect for a get away with a loved one. The highlight of these apartments are the beds, which are super king in size, and the fact guests are trusted to open small windows in their lodgings. Situated close to the WACA, which makes it the perfect location in summer to lay back and enjoy the sounds of the cricket across the road whilst basking in air-conditioned comfort.

Time Out tip: The room service menu is exactly the same as the downstairs restaurant. Who doesn’t like eating every meal in bed?

Plan a Perth adventure with some pals and set up camp inside this historic house that is bursting with colonial architectural charm. The Lodging comfortably sleeps ten inside its four rooms which have adjoining ensuites stocked with Grown Alchemist products. The heritage bones of the luxury guest house are decorated with tasteful portraits of pop cultural icons like Elvis and Sophia Loren. Adding to the beauty of the place is the surrounding cafes and galleries that are all able to be explored on foot and are just outside the front door.

Time Out tip: Eat at The Raw Kitchen which is just down the road. It does what it says on the can…

When in WA, make the most of the azure water, which is what these aqua-adjacent 47-self contained apartments do. All suites are absolute waterfront on the Swan River and feature balconies and decks to ensure the sunsets are taken in, regardless of the fact it makes the 50-inch TVs with movies on demand inside a little redundant. Fitted out with Morrissey amenities, kitchenette and Nespresso machines, Pier 21 is a great place to start your trip before catching the nearby ferry to Rottnest Island.

Time Out tip: Once the sun goes down, enjoy a slice of pizza and a craft beer at nearby Propeller.

  • Fremantle

All the charm of a hostel with the service of a five star chain. This boutique hotel offers complimentary wine and canapés for guests every night of their stay, in addition to morning tea and toast. The rooms resemble a cabin in the forest, decked out with teak, raffia and contemporary and abstract artwork that wouldn’t look out of place in a modern art museum. Located just steps away from Freo’s bustling “cappuccino strip” and foreshore, guests will have to remind themselves to jump on a nearby train to explore all of Perth after they check in.

Time Out tip: Make room for dessert at Bread in Common at the end of the street. Burnt toast ice cream is their speciality.
