It’s been a big year for Time Out founder Tony Elliott. Back in March, he was honoured at the British Media Awards with an Outstanding Contribution to British Media award and now he’s only gone and made the Queen’s Birthday Honours list. Announced at the weekend, Tony Elliott has been appointed a CBE (that’s Commander of the Order of the British Empire, in case you were wondering).
Tony founded Time Out in 1968 while he was a student at Keele University. The first issue was produced on his mother’s kitchen table, funded by £70 Tony had received from his aunt for his twenty-first birthday. Nearly 50 years on, Time Out is now in 108 cities in 39 countries, with a monthly global audience of 156 million people. Best 70 quid ever spent? Congratulations, Tony!
