Wimbledon Tennis Championships: your ultimate guide

Founded in 1877, Wimbledon is one of London’s oldest sporting events and with more than half a million people expected to turn up to watch all the ball-bouncing action it’s also one of the biggest. Thanks to its old-school British rules (like wearing predominantly white on court) and delightfully tense matches, Wimbledon is the most prestigious Grand Slam in the tennis biz. And after two years of turbulence for the championship, you won’t want to miss this year’s action as things get back to their usual Pimms-soaked, strawberry-stained state.

When does Wimbledon 2022 start and finish?

It will run from Monday June 27 to Sunday July 10 2022 in the gorgeous, leafy SW19, or more specifically, at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, which has been its home since 1877.

Can I go and see matches?

Things are a little bit different this year when it comes to the ticket ballot. Instead of the usual annual sale, there’s no public ballot in 2022. Instead, guests who were successful in the 2020 ballot have had their tickets transferred to this year.

However, the famous queue for day tickets is back. So, you can nab a courtside seat on the day. But do go early.

However, seeing as it’s the most prestigious Grand Slam in the tennis biz (and the one with the best treats, what’s better than strawberries and cream, eh?), there are more places to see it than just Wimbledon itself. There are pop-up big screens all over the city where you can watch the action unfold, with a Pimm’s in hand.
