Guinness has one of the most dedicated fanbases of any alcoholic drink. From the art of the pour to its rich, creamy taste, Guinness fans are – quite rightly, we should add – impressively devoted to their pint.
If you’re a Guinness obsessive, well, we’ve got very exciting news indeed. St James’s Gate, a part of Dublin renowned for being the home of Guinness, could soon be regenerated to include apartments and commercial spaces. Just think about that: you could live or work in an old Guinness brewery or storehouse. Pretty cool, right?
The regeneration has been proposed by a developer called Ballymore, with the idea being that the project will preserve St James’s Gate’s historic buildings and that Guinness will continue to be brewed in the area.
Appropriately called the ‘Guinness Quarter’, the proposals include over 300 new apartments (some of which will be social housing), offices, retail spaces and a market. Here are a couple of renders of the designs.
St James’s Gate is in the Dublin 8 neighbourhood and it’s been the home of Guinness since 1759. These days it boasts not just a huge Guinness brewery but also the Guinness Storehouse, a museum dedicated to the stout and one of Dublin’s most popular tourist attractions.
So when could you be living out your Guinness fantasies in your own St James’s Gate pad? Well, at the moment the project is only at the planning permission stage – so it might be a while yet.

Did you see that Berlin’s old airport is becoming a new eco-neighbourhood?
Plus: you could live on this Irish island rent-free for a year.
